Definitely! This plan will help you build strong, high-functioning, resilient shoulders from the ground up. Starting with optimizing movement mechanics, and then building stability around the shoulder complex, you will find a new strength and ownership of your pressing and overhead movements.
Much of the first two phases can be done easily at home with some light dumbbells and bands, but as you get into the last phase you will need access to some heavier weights. Phase 3 is designed to get you back to lifting overhead in the gym pain-free, so your rehab needs to mimic your training goals.
When your joints have full range of motion, it triggers a cascade of benefits that begins with short-term exercise and ends with long-term health. Your muscles are better able to engage during workouts, which therefore become more productive. This means increased strength and reduced pain and risk of injury thanks to your ability to use proper technique. So, when you find a program that cultivates flexibility, joint stability, and muscle balance, it’s worth it for the long haul!
MobilityFirst isn’t just for the elite athlete! Living an active lifestyle at any level leads to natural wear and tear. The best way to keep your body primed is to unlock your mobility. Without proper movement from head to toe, you not only lower your ceiling, but you also potentially set yourself up for even bigger issues down the road.
Let’s be clear. There’s nothing wrong with physical therapy—after all, it’s my specialty! That said, general PT just doesn’t solve the types of problems brought on by poor mobility, and often neglects the ROOT issue. My program fills those holes. MobilityFirst uses an active-mobility philosophy based on years of scientific research and practical application. You’re not going to hear “sit and reach” or “lie down on the training table” in any of my videos!
Hey, stretching is good, especially dynamic techniques that activate your muscle’s stretch reflex (versus basic static “hold” movements). Our program incorporates these, but then takes them to the next level by focusing on full range of motion. This is about the movement of your joints, not just the flexibility of your muscles. Your body’s structure is an interrelated system of bones, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. They all need to perform at top levels!
